I finished chemotherapy this year, and I am happy to be done. I’m recovering slowly, but steadily. I still need monthly appointments and doctor visits, but at least I don’t need any more chemo. I have some long-term bone problems induced by certain medications, so I’m seeing an orthopedic surgeon about them.

On a more positive note, I’ve finally gotten a chance to think about the rest of my life. My goal ever since I was pretty young was to apply for Systems Design Engineering like both my parents, but I would also be happy with Software Engineering. Although Waterloo would only let me apply to one Engineering course, I was allowed to specify an alternate course.

However, when I tried to put the application through, the system informed me that I couldn’t specify Software or Biomedical Engineering because those programs were too competitive. I decided to switch them around and put Software first, with Systems as my alternate.

Today, I received an email from the admissions department tellimg me that I had been accepted into Software Engineering at the University of Waterloo for Fall 2022. I’m very excited to be finally resuming my life and doing things, meeting new people and going different places.

It’s been a long journey. While this isn’t the end, it’s certainly a huge milestone, and I’m looking forward to what the future brings.
