One year ago I received a call from my doctor. One year ago I was admitted to London Victoria Hospital.
One year ago I was diagnosed with cancer.
More details of the story are here. You never expect these things to happen to you. One day I was worried about an essay, and the next I was worried about my life. It’s fascinating how something like that completely changes your outlook on the world in the blink of an eye.
My RCM Level 9 piano exam was cancelled. I was planning on serving a mission for my church after highschool. Postponed. I missed prom, and the ending of school.
Instead, I was able to learn a lot about the medical field in a short time. I made good friends among the other patients, and met many wonderful nurses and doctors.
I’m smiling in many of these photos. This isn’t because it was an easy or happy time; I just don’t like pictures being taken of me when I’m not ready for them. Looking back on it now, I wish that I had gotten a more complete record of my journey so far. Still, it’s nice to remember the better times.
The road less traveled is less popular for a reason. The going is tough, and the end is two years away. However, I know that I will look back among the many treasures that I have found on the way, and know that it was the right path for me.
